Over the past few weeks we have discovered that more than 40% of the users
connected to our network have at least one virus on their computer system.
Viruses can cause a myriad of problems ranging anywhere from annoying
disconnections and speed problems to more serious problems such as theft
of your personal information (name, address, phone number, credit card
number, etc.)
If you are suffering from any of the
following problems with your computer or your connection to the internet,
we HIGHLY recommend that you check your system for viruses.
- constant disconnections from the internet
- slow connections to the internet
- constant "Host Not Found" or "Page Cannot Be
Displayed" messages while online
- You make a connection to the net, but are unable to surf
- Your "Home Page" or "Start Page" keeps
changing
- unrelenting popups (a few popups are normal unfortunately) but do you
get so many you can't even browse the internet?
- when you go to your task manager, do you see something called mblast.exe,
dllhost.exe
- Does your computer ever just shut down saying "RPC procedure call
error, your system will shut down in 60 seconds"?
If you have noticed any of the following
symptoms listed above on your computer, we urge you to check your computer
for viruses immediately.
What if I already have Anti-Virus
software on my computer?
That's not good enough most of the time! Did you know that you MUST update
your virus definitions WEEKLY or it's like not even having them at all.
The people who write viruses make new ones all the time. If your computer
is not updated with the most recent virus definitions on a weekly basis,
your computer is still subject to infection. Also check your Antivirus
subscription. Just because it's installed on your computer doesn't mean
you have a current subscription. If your subscription is expired, you must
purchase a new copy before it does any good. An expired copy does
absolutely nothing to prevent viruses on your system.
Do I need to run Windows Updates?
YES! YES! YES! Windows puts out periodic updated that will fix the bugs in
Microsoft's software that allows viruses to infect your computer. If you
have never done this before, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, and
Windows Update. Keep running the update until all critical updates are
done.
How do I see if my computer has a virus
or not?
Click
here to check your system for viruses. Run both the Virus Scan and the
Security Scan. This will not remove viruses
from your system, but it will let you know if your computer is infected or
not. Please be patient, this process may take a few hours depending on the number of files on your system and your connection
speed to the internet.
